An account of altering adornments
It’s an end of a long-term debate. We shun aside questions like whether the pearl holds a queenly status among the gems or is the gem meant only for the queens; gone are the days that made others speculate on whether something around someone’s neck is worth more than the wearer’s head.Today’s jewellery has long left the confinement of precious and semi-precious gems and metals as finely crafted as the rifling inside a barrel; the modern trend (and trade) has rendered jewellery into something chunkier that goes well with women’s regular western wear. Semi-precious gems have made a comeback (especially turquoise, jasper, jade or tiger’s eye) and almost everybody today sports that strong, Southwestern look, though serious mistakes in the current fashion are also a prevailing thing.
The first, definitely is overdoing things; a piece of chunky jewellery is meant for complimenting a western outfit and not the other way round. If it draws attention away from the wearer’s features or clothes, it is a flop. It will then look, gross! Following the latest fashion trends is not always beneficial and fashion, contrary to the practices by consumerism, is never a one size fits all strategy.
